There
are several treks in and around Berlin. These are well described,
documented, marked and popular. You can choose any one of them based on
your convenience, time at your disposal, the length of the trek you want
to do, how far you want to go from Berlin, and basically what kind of
features you want the trek to have.
We
have been doing it for some time now and depending on our fitness
levels (oh my legs are aching, I cannot do any climbing / I only want to
trek 5 kms today). It is mostly my husband and me who go on these treks
but sometimes a friend or two also join...
We
like to get out of the city and clear our heads, stretch our legs, look
at the nature, breath in the fresh grass, feel the breeze on the face
... So we are generally ok if we don't have any other company....
This
trek was postponed twice already. Both times, the threat of rain and
thunderstorm held us back. We went somewhere else, mostly closer to
Berlin. But third time, we wanted to be lucky and with an old friend, st
out on this interesting and highly pleasant trek.
On
the internet all the information of this trek is given, ie. on
Komoot.com, you can download the trek route. this is a great help
because quite often you come up against two or more paths leading away,
and it will be a dilemma which one to follow. you definitely donot want
to get lost; as it will only increase the length of the trek. We
selected this one because we were ready to do more than 10 kms. and a
bit of climbing too. This trek is termed as an Intermediate hike. It
requires fitness.
We
usually make a day trip of the whole thing. That means we start out
after a cup of tea and a basket of food and enough water, to last the
day. We reached the town of Bad Belzig and parked our car in the paid parking lot. It was Saturday and there is plenty of parking available. That was the starting point of our trek.
We
set out on the trail, after a well earned break and the trail goes
through such pretty fields of wheat, rye and yellow and purple
flowers.... One has to stop and gaze at them and ofcourse take plenty of
photos.
On
the way back to Bad Belzig, we passed Burg Eisenhardt. We saw it from
outside only. Burg Eisenhardt is a whole tour in itself. There is a
great big turm / tower standing majestically on its grounds. After
hiking 13 kms, I was not in a position to climb this tower. that is for
another time: I promised myself.
The best part of signing up on this website is that you will get all the details of the trek on your phone. Length of the distance trekked, total height climbed, average speed etc. It is cool to know them, donot you think so?
